Bangalore: The Karnataka government has finally begun moving mounds of garbage from Bangalore in a measure to make the city clean. After a massive public outcry, the garbage in the garden city is finally being collected but this is just a temporary arrangement as the landfill is expected to be closed by the end of the week.
For nearly two months, the Bangalore administration has been struggling to clear the garbage. The city was also criticised by the New York Times and other international publications over the issue.
Facing severe flak from the citizens, the Bangalore administration has finally approved 80 solid waste management projects worth Rs 300 crore. It has also notified 400 acres of land on the outskirts of Chikkaballapur to be used as a landfill. The administration hopes these measures will help the city in getting rid of the garbage.
