BMC to remove all political hoardings in Mumbai

Feb 28, 2008 11:19 PM IST India India

Mumbai: Concerned by the growing clutter in Mumbai’s cityscape, the BMC has decided to remove all illegal political hoardings in the city. After months of lobbying for political consensus, the civic administration can only be glad that the politicians have agreed for the removal of political hoardings. The netas' reason for parting from their larger than life presence in the city is not just political correctness but also the question of their loyalty to the city's beautification. “No one party should be singled out, every party’s (hoardings) ought to be removed. That’s why this order was given,” explained Shiv Sena corporator, Ravindra Waikar. Whatever the motivations, Mumbaikars are happy about the decision. “I think that it’s the correct decision,” stated one denizen while another said, “I think they really clutter up the city and make it very dirty.” The catch in this noble project is that the authorities have given themselves 24 hours to pull down all the hoardings. Clearly, it’s no mean task at hand. Perhaps, by tomorrow morning, more of Mumbai will be visible. With inputs by Neenaz Ichaporia and Nimisha Srivastava
