New Delhi: With petrol prices going through the roof, driving to work can get pretty expensive. One can brave the bus or haggle everyday with a rickshaw driver but there are other options available—car pooling.
Now all thanks to the Internet, finding people people going to the same destination is no longer a Herculean task.
A senior analyst with Hills and Associates, Gaurishanker Iyer, who drives to work along with his colleagues, has been car pooling since January 2005.
“First of all it’s economical. Secondly, when you have a couple of people coming and going to the same place it doesn’t make sense taking multiple cars. There’s parking problem and traffic,” says Iyer.
Say hello to indimoto.com, a one-stop shop for all your auto queries. It boasts of an active car pool site, which doubles up as a sensible eco- friendly campaign.
The website is steering it further by offering free advertisements for potential car poolers.
“My group got disbanded so I thought it would be good to have a couple of more people. I chanced upon this site, got registered a couple of weeks back, now I’m just waiting for people to approach me,” says Iyer.
The site has more than 200 car pool members from all over India. Glance through the advertisements from various cities in the country and contact the person who most suits your route and timings.
The registration is simple and to make the deal sweeter, it's free.
There are many health and monetary benefits of car pooling as well. One saves on a considerable amount of money usually spent on petrol, wear and tear of one’s car and parking bills.
The site gives a lowdown on car-pooling etiquette as well. What it doesn't do is take responsibility for the people you meet via this service.
