Extremely sorry to hear the sad news: Safdarjung doctor

New Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr BD Athani while mouring the death of the Delhi braveheart said that his team tried to provide the best possible medical care to the 23-year-old girl. "We tried to provide her best possible medical care but she required super specialty infrastructure which was available in Singapore," said Dr Athani.

"I am extremely sorry to hear the sad news. Despite our best attempts at Safdarjung hospital and Mt Elizabeth she succumbed, her condition remained critical since she was brought to the Safdarjung Hospital," Dr Athani said.

According to the doctors at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital, the victim, before her death, had shown signs of severe organ failure despite the doctors putting her on maximum artificial ventilator support and optimal antibiotic doses.

The 23-year-old paramedical student, who was allegedly gangraped and brutally assaulted by six men inside a private bus in Delhi died on Saturday after battling for life for 13 days.

The student was airlifted from New Delhi to Singapore on December 26 as her condition showed no signs of improvement even after 10 days of treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.
