New Delhi: A Phd from Delhi University and currently working in Gandhi Bhawan Dr.Anamika Sharma has been treading a difficult path for the past one year.
After Anamika Sharma lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against a professor from the university last year, she has been facing the wrath of authorities in the campus.
"Not many authorities were supportive. Many asked me to take back the case and not to go ahead with the complaint," says she.
"The professor used to physically abuse me and say you are of new use to me," adds she.
It's most ironic that a case of sexual harassment should be slapped on people - professors no less - in place like Gandhi Bhawan and while Anamika is yet to get justice, two DU professors have already been suspended in cases of sexual harassment.
Professor Gurcharan Singh Arshi of the Punjabi Department and Professor Atul Razdan from the Maths Department were booked under DU ordinance 15 D of sexual harassment.
However the report against accused, Professor Bidyut Chakraborty, in the case of Anamika Sharma will be tabled only next month.
"I don't know why is he buying time," says a distraught Anamika.
While the professor was not available for comment, the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Deepak Pantal, is seeing the judgement as a step in the right direction to make the campus a safer place for women.
"A proper conduct has to be introduced, a healthy atmosphere between students and teachers has to be maintained," says he.
It might be a wait for yet another month but it's a battle that has clearly made Anamika a stronger person, who says she now feels empowered.
