Los Angeles: Nominees for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards were announced Thursday in a spectacular show in Los Angeles. 
 
The who's who of the international music fraternity turned up for the big event. After all, who does not like winning? 
 
Grammy nominee Herbie Hancock said, "Oh. It's nice winning awards I tell you that! You win some, you lose some, you know. Last time, I was nominated for three awards but I got none. But this is special for me. It is a category I have never been considered for—Album of the Year." 
 
Popular US rapper Kanye West received eight nominations including Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, and three slots in the best rap song category. 
 
Amy Winehouse, despite her frequent breakdowns, drug history and personal relationships being a fodder for tabloids, bagged as many as six nominations including Album of the Year for Back to Black. Winehouse also earned a Song of the Year nomination for the self-referential hit single, Rehab. 
 
“I think Amy Winehouse's record is amazing. I think everyone should leave her alone. I think she's incredible. Happy Holidays everyone," said an exuberant Dave Grohl whose band Foo Fighters received five Grammy nominations. 
 
Other artistes vying for Record of the Year include Beyonce, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. 
 
And though the awards night is months away, everybody had their gushing acceptance speeches ready. 
 
Fergie, who has been nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal said, "It’s amazing. I am really honoured to be nominated for this award. It is such a prestigious award in my mind.” 
 
The winners of the 50th Annual Grammy Awards will be announced February 10 next year.
