Election Epicentre: Opposition Questions Air Strikes

Mar 04, 2019 08:06 PM IST India India

Less than a week back the IAF launched airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack where 40 CRPF jawans were killed. Political unity lasted for only a couple of days but with the 2019 elections nearing, it is a deja vu of surgical strike politics where opposition leaders are now demanding proof and questioning the intent of the Modi government. This despite the statement of the Air Force Chief who called it a successful mission as Pakistan gets diplomatically isolated on the global stage. The Modi govt holds the edge ahead of the polls highlighting a tough stand against terror. Clearly this is the Opposition's attempt to blunt that strike but has the BJP jumped the gun as well. Giving casualty figures in rallies, drawing political conclusions and not being on the same page in the political messaging from BJP President Amit Shah who gave numbers of fatalities to Karnataka President BS Yeddyurappa who said BJP would get electoral dividends, as the politics only seems to escalate ahead of polls is the anti-terror airstrike Agenda 2019?
