A fake WhatsApp message on child lifting that is believed to have started from Jharkhand has spread like wildfire across the country, and led to the killing of 23 people in 10 states. The police, authorities and media have debunked the rumors over and over again, but no one seems to be listening. In the last four years, WhatsApp has become the number one platform to disseminate fake news. Sometimes is it disinformation, other times it is propaganda but now it has taken a deadly turn.
