Faridabad: When 20-year-old Rahul Raj was airlifted from Patna his family thought they could save his life. But ironically that was not to be. Rahul Raj had gone into coma after suffering from jaundice. On Wednesday, his doctors advised his family to get him airlifted to the Apollo hospital in Delhi. He was accompanied by his cousin Ratnesh.
Rahul's uncle said, "Rahul's father and I boarded the evening flight to come to Delhi and make all the arrangements at the hospital. We were told by the hospital authorities around 11 pm that the patient will not be able to come. We got to know through the news channels that a chartered flight has crashed. So we rushed to the spot"
Every one on board the aircraft including the pilots and the team from Apollo hospital died.
One of the pilot's uncle Karamveer said, "We got to know about the crash through news channels. He was just 22 years old and had completed his training from New Zealand. He had joined this company two months back."
But the tragedy was not restricted to just the aircraft. At 10:45 pm on Wednesday, when the chartered air ambulance crashed on the roof of Shobram's house, he lost almost all his family.
Victim's family member Shobhram said, "My tenants and my son ran out of the house to save their lives when the plane crashed. Rest of my family members including my wife, daughter and daughter-in-law died in the crash."
Even as the govt announced financial compensation for the families of the victims in Faridabad, the local administration chipped in as well offering to bear all the expenses for the last rites of those killed in this fatal crash.
Ironically, what started as an attempt to save Rahul Raj's life ended up in a tragedy that not only brought a tragic end to Rahul's life but to several others as well.
