Panaji: A day after the collapse of an under-construction building in Canacona claimed lives of fourteen people, 21 others have been rescued. However, nearly 60 people are still believed to be trapped in the debris. 360 army personnel are involved in the rescue operations at the site. 
 
The police have filed an FIR against the builder and municipal officials who sanctioned the construction of the building. There have been troubles in the past as well with the building as a slab of the same building had collapsed in 2013. Locals had also opposed the project on grounds of it being environmentally unfriendly. 
 
An under-construction building, Ruby Residency, had collapsed in south Goa at 3 pm on Saturday. Following the mishap, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured that stringent action will be taken against the builder and municipal officers concerned in connection with the collapse. 
 
"The design of the building was faulty and the columns were not built properly. Two adjacent under-construction buildings have been evacuated. An FIR has been registered against the builder, contractor, and municipal engineer," Parrikar said. 
 
"Rescue operation is still going on and the Army has been called in. Exact number of people trapped inside will be known once the debris is cleared. Criminal case will be registered against those who are responsible for this," Goa DIG OP Mishra said. 
 
According to eye witnesses, more than 40 people were working on the construction site when the structure came crashing down. The exact number is yet to be ascertained.
