Bhojpur: At a police station in Bhojpur, Bihar, pujas are being done before antique idols worth Rs three crore in the international market. Stolen more than 15 years ago, villagers can't get those idols back without the money to pay a bail bond of Rs 42 lakh. 
 
These have been in the premises of the Krishna Garh police station in Bhojpur, Bihar, for the last 15 years. 
 
Bhojpur Senior Inspector Suresh Manjhi said, "Idols of Lord Varun and Hanuman are lying in Krishna Garh Police station since past 17 years. The claimants have not paid the bail and are not taking the idols back." 
 
These idols were stolen from Bari Devi temple situated in nearby Gundi village in April 1994 due to its high antique value. The police recovered them in 1996 and sent the culprits behind bars. But as the law goes, once recovered, these idols became government's property, till the claimants furnished a bail bond on Rs 42 lakh for release of these idols from the police station. 
 
The policemen are doing the best they can - maintaining these gods till a claimant approaches with Rs 42 lakh literally to bail them out. 
 
Temple owner Yugal Kishoore Singh said, "God is under custody and there is no one to pay the bail." 
 
And, unable to pay the Rs 42 lakh, the villagers are helpless. One of the villagers Suresh Prasad said, "Court has asked us to pay Rs 42 lakh as security money to get the idols back. Where will we poor villagers get this huge amount?" 
 
God is almighty they say, but it is the law that has prevailed in this instance.
