Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl died after she fell off a scooter into a pothole and was run over by a bus in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The incident took place when Riya Gudial was pillion riding with a friend and the front tyre of the two-wheeler skidded into a pothole on one of the busiest roads of the city.
Even as the duo tried to steady their vehicle, a bus hit their scooter from behind and ran over Riya. The video shot by her friend showed that the teenager was alive when she was moved to the hospital. She succumbed to her injuries two hours later.
The victim's family has squarely blamed the municipal corporation for the death.
Victim's uncle JV Pant sais the Municipal Commissioners are the culprit number 1. "They take money in advance, then only digging starts but they dont do.. or they do it leisurely," he said.
Her cousin Vinay also blamed the municipal coporation and said it's their mistake. He said roads were dug but are not finished. "For last 2 years, they have been digging roads. Today it's from our family, tomorrow it can be from anybody's family," he added.
One of the eye witnesses Ram said accident could have been prevented if necessary actions were taken. "Mud was kept there yesterday morning and due to rain it became worse. Now workers are clearing it. But if they had taken care earlier, the accident would not have happened," he said.
Roads in the hi-tech city have collapsed following incessant rains in Hyderabad. For motorists, commute has been a complete nightmare. CNN-IBN has been running a sustained campaign of civic neglect and government indifference towards tax-paying citizens.
