Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has backed the Centre on the Rohingya refugee issue, saying immigrants have encroached upon the indigenous people’s land and culture in the Northeast. “Our monasteries and temples have been encroached upon. We are in very serious trouble when it comes to immigrant. So, drawing from my experience in the Northeast, I don't think any more people should be given asylum or refugee status in India.”
