SL takes over oil storage depot from IOC

Mar 22, 2013 07:29 AM IST India India

New Delhi: A day after India voted in favour of the UN resolution on war crimes in Sri Lanka, sources said diplomatic ties between the two neighbouring countries are beginning to crackdown. On Thursday, Sri Lanka announced plans to partially take over an oil storage depot from the Indian Oil Company's Sri Lankan arm.

Sri Lanka's Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella cited legal provisions to take back unused tanks and said that the tanks could be used to expand the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation's operations. He also said the decision had nothing to do with the UN vote.

Meanwhile, the head of the IOC in Sri Lanka said they were unaware of the government's decision. Out of the 99 tanks in the Trincomalee depot, Lanka IOC are currently using 15 tanks and refurbishing two more.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister GL Peirsis, however, says that Sri Lanka's relationship with India will not be affected by the UN vote.
