Twin attacks in J&K ahead of polls, sarpanch, two others killed

Tral/Pulwama: Just two days before polls in Jammu and Kashmir, unidentified gunmen shot dead a sarpanch, his son and a nambardar in two separate attacks in the Tral area of Pulwama district on Monday.

Suspected terrorists barged into the house of a Congress affiliated sarpanch, Ghulam Nabi Mir and killed him and his son. According to sources, 8 LeT and Hizbul militants are believed to be behind these attacks.

This is the second attack on a sarpanch in the past week and the fifth in the recent times. A PDP sarpanch was killed last week. In a separate incident, a nambardar Mohd Anwar, was reportedly shot at point blank range.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has condemned the attacks but hit out at the call to boycott elections. he said that a decision that should be based on conviction, not fear.
