Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Khammam shooting and announced a compensation of 5 lakhs to the families of the two dead students and jobs for the next of the kin.
The two students were killed on Wednesday and two others got injured when the rifle of a policeman went off accidentally during a weapon demonstration in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh.
As part of the police commemoration week that began on October 15, police personnel were giving a demonstration of communication equipment and weapons to students at Velairpadu village in the district, when the incident occurred, police said.
The policeman was giving a demo on loading and unloading the weapon, when it went off by mistake, killing a tenth and eight standard students, who were identified as Venkatkrishna and Saibaba respectively, they said.
Two other students have been injured in the incident and were admitted to a government hospital at Khammam, police said adding that the condition of one of them is critical.
