Oct 19, 2012 07:22 AM IST India India

Kochi: A shocking tale of sexual abuse which authorities at a school in Kochi allegedly tried to supress. The victim, a class VIII student, said that his complaint against a teacher fell on deaf ears. Raju (name changed) said, "On September 17, I went along with my friends to our class teacher to report (about how I was abused by the IT teacher). But he told me - to err is human. Then we went to the headmaster and complained. He gave me two chocolates and told me not to tell this to anyone."

Ibrahim, the accused teacher has been absconding ever since the bewildered child opened up to his father. The child said that the teacher took him to his house on the pretext of giving him story books and sexually abused him. Victim's mother said, "The teacher should get the maximum punishment he deserves."

However, the school authorities deny any cover up. But the educatioin department has started a probe. HSHC School in English Manager Jallaludin said, "We took action in 24 hours and placed the teacher under suspension." Though the FIR was registered three weeks ago, the accused teacher is still at large. The school authorities have denied allegations that other innocent children could also have been preyed upon, saying they have not received a similar complaint before.

The accused teacher has approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The victim's family alleged that the police are going slow with the probe - a charge the police deny. Victim's father said, "The accused teacher is said to be very influential in his community. That's why this probe is lagging and he is still in hiding." The incident has prompted the locals to form an action council to demand justice for the child.
