It's a new low in the battle to clean up Indian sports as the Indian Olympic Association president Abhay Chautala, who is convicted in the Teachers Recruitment scam in Haryana, has launched a vicious personal attack on India's only individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, saying if Bindra has a problem with tainted officials he should throw his father out of the house.
"Abhinav Bindra's father served some time in jail. If Bindra feels that chargesheeted people should be stripped of their positions then he should throw his father out of his house or leave his house himself," Chautala said.
Bindra has been leading the campaign to clean up Indian sports. The IOA president's outburst coming a day after Bindra talking to CNN-IBN said time was up for the present lot of administrators in the IOA.
When asked does he believe because the same old faces remain in sports bodies for so long, he is fighting a losing battle or does he think things will change?
Bindra said: For Indian sports to grow, there is so much to be done. We have so much potential and talent in this country, that talent needs to be nurtured. lt needs the right mentoring and we are still stuck up on something that is elementary. We need leaders, people who can run our movement, people who we can respect, who can inspire us. They need to mentor our younger generation and quite frankly the present lot's time is up.
