West Bengal crib deaths: Five more infants die at Malda hospital

Malda: In a worsening situation at the Malda Medical College & Hospital, five more infant deaths have been reported on Sunday.

This comes less than a day after as many as seven newborne died at the hospital in 24 hours time.

Crib deaths is a serious issue haunting the West Bengal government since the past few years.

In January this year, 16 infants died at the same Malda hospital in three days. Hospital authorities have maintained that the infants are being admitted with serious health problems including respiratory problems, severe malnourishment and infections, and the doctors do their best to save them. Malda Medical college is the only referral hospital in the area.
