New Delhi: The world-wide phenomenon of malnourishment is no alien to the national capital. According to a survey conducted by a Delhi NGO, over 200 children out of 500 are reported to be malnourished in Delhi.

A certain 30-year-old Kaushal knows that a diet of plain rice and rotis insufficient to properly nourish her children, who need a well balanced diet- calcium, proteins, carbs, vitamins and more. Kaushal's 7th child is less than a month old and feeding her is not easy as Kaushal herself does not get a healthy diet.

A Delhi based NGO Pardarshita conducted surveys to measure the weight of children in east Delhi's Sundar Nagri.

According to the data analysis done by the NGO, 238 out of 499 children were found malnourished.

GTB hospital, closest to Sundar Nagri should have an ICDS (integrated child development scheme) running under the Ministry of Woman and Child Development. ICDS is supposed to have a nutrition rehabilitation center. This is one of the 11 listed hospitals by the Delhi government which is non functional. In fact, currently only one such center is fully functional at the Hindu Rao.
