New Delhi: A 50-year-old woman, Vandana Dheer, has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly brutally abusing her teenaged domestic worker. The girl was rescued from Vasant Kunj in south Delhi by a joint team of an NGO and police.

A case of assault, bonded labour and illegal confinement was lodged against the girl's employer. The 15-year-old girl from Jharkhand has alleged that her employer would beat her up every day.

The girl had been working in the house for a year. The police say that the girl has knife injuries on her head and her hand. "There are knife injuries on her head and hand. There is a deep gash on her head as well," police said.

The employer is expected to be produced before a local court later in the day. A joint team of Delhi police and an NGO Shakti Vahini had rescued the badly battered and scared girl from ground floor of Dheer's residence on Monday evening.

The girl was taken to Safdarjung hospital for medical check up and after the doctor's report, a case was registered against Dheer at 12:30 AM on Monday night. "An FIR has been lodged under sections 323, 324, 326 and 342 IPC and 16 Bonded Labour Act at Vasant Kunj North police station," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) BS Jaiswal had said.

After registration of FIR, police waited till morning to nab the accused as women cannot be arrested at night, a police source said.
