Srinagar: The Army on Monday said a large haul of arms and ammunition were recovered from Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The Army has displayed the arms and ammunition recovered during the last 13 days of operation.

"Large haul of AK 47 rifles and war ammunition recovered from Keran sector. The recovery made by the Army made the designs of terrorists amply clear," said Brigadier General Staff Colonel Sanjay Mitra.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the Army is taking necessary measures. "Our armed forces are undertaking appropriate necessary measures and we have full confidence in them. We will await the outcome of their efforts in this regard," he said.

"We have repeatedly maintained that sanctity of the border is of prime importance and was emphasised by the Prime Minister in New York," he added.

He said, "DGMOs speak on tue. Once the talks take place on telephone then we will know of the outcome and based on that maybe there will be a decision for them to meet.

"Right now the challenge is for our forces to contain the infiltration. Will make an assessment once operations are over," he said.

The Indian Army is fighting a pitched battle in Keran Sector of Kupwara District for the 14th day today. It has been called the biggest infilitration bid in the recent past. The operation is still on, even though the Army said a few days ago it's in its final stages. The Army has cordoned off the area.

Caught in the cross-fire are residents from nearby villages. The villagers from Jamgund a village which lies next to Shala Batu have fled their village to avoid being trapped in the gunfight. "We face a lot of problem. There is firing going on from both the sides. We are stuck in between," said on eof the villagers.

Army officials have confirmed that there has been massive infiltration attempt in the Shala Batu village. They said 30 to 40 terrorists backed by the Pakistani army have infiltrated into Keran. Earlier, the Army foiled infiltration attempts at Gujjar-dur at Fateh Gali near Shala Batu. Pakistan had on Sunday called the reports of infiltration baseless.
