Mumbai: In Mumbai, a man stabbed his girlfriend to death and then attempted suicide in Navi Mumbai on Thursday night.
Twenty-year old Samantha Fernandes, a student at the Sophia College, was found with multiple stab wounds in the room of a lodge at Rabale.
Her 35-year old boyfriend Sumit Giri was also found lying beside Samantha's body.
He had consumed poison and then stabbed himself.
Samantha died while on the way to the hospital and Sumit is still battling for his life.
A suicide note left by Sumit said he killed Samantha after she revealed that she was in love with someone else.
The owner of the lodge says Samantha and Sumit had booked a room around 1400 hrs IST on Thursday afternoon. But when the couple did not come out till 21 hrs IST, the lodge-owner alerted the police.
Mumbai Police Sub-Inspector Prakash More, who is investigating the case, said that prima-facie it appeared that the man killed the girl.
"In my opinion the man killed the girl first and then consumed alcohol and poison. After that he tried to kill himself using the same knife with which he had killed the girl," More said.
