The Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday handed over licences to five operators to start Udan (Ude Desh Ke Aam Naagrik) scheme which is set to get operational by April. 43 tier-two and tier-three cities will be connected by air. The first towns to be connected will be Bhatinda and Shimla.
Other small towns like Kandla and Porbander to Salem, Bidar and Hosur will be connected in a phased manner latest by September. What's even better news for the aam aadmi is that half the seats on these flights will be subsidised. There will be a cap of 2,500 rupees on one-hour flights.
