Muzaffarnagar riots: 13 babies born at refugee camp, but no medical aid

Ghaziabad: In the past eight days, 13 babies have been born at the refugee camp for riot victims from Muzaffarnagar. But as IBN7 reports, there is no medical help that is reaching the victims.

In the past eight days, three women have had a miscarriage due to lack of medical help. According to the refugees, the government centres don't have enough facilities and they can't afford private clinics.

The bigger problem now is providing for the new mothers and newborn babies. While there is provision for food for the 6,000 refugees at the Madarsa for mostly women and children, there isn't enough nutrition or care for the new mothers and the babies. One new born baby has caught an infection already.

In spite of these conditions, the refugees do not want to go back home. This even as the UP government's promises for swift rehabilitation.

For the babies in this camp, the promised help is yet to reach them. These children have been displaced even before their birth. The question is whether there will be a new beginning for them and from where.
