Mumbai: Wholesale onion markets in Nasik - Maharashtra shut in protest on Friday after prices crashed to as low as Rs 4 per kg.

Farmers want the three year export ban on onions to be removed to stabilise prices. There hass been a partial lifting of the ban on the rose variety of onions from Karnataka.

Onion traders are likely to come to Delhi to seek an appointment with Commerce Minister Anand Sharma. Wholesale markets in Pune were shut on Thursday to protest falling prices.

And here's the irony - retail prices of onions in most markets continue to be between Rs 25-30 per kg.
