Islamabad: The Pakistan Supreme Court is all set to hear Islamabad's response on re-opening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, even as Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz is slated to testify on the memogate scandal. 
 
In what seems to be a day of judgement for Pakistan, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will face a confidence vote on Monday. 
 
The big challenges of the day, meanwhile, come from the courts, with the Supreme Court-appointed judicial commission due to take up the testimony of Ijaz, whereby he is expected to say that President Zardari and Pakistan Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani had pleaded for US help in case the military staged a coup in the country. 
 
The Supreme Court will also hear cases related to the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) amnesty order that allowed President Zardari immunity from prosecution in corruption cases. 
 
Last week, the judges had called Gilani a dishonest man for not having implemented the SC’s orders on the NRO. 
 
This week the court could order one of the six options that include disqualifying Gilani from Parliament, and hauling him and President Zardari for contempt. 
 
Waiting in the wings are players like Imran Khan and former President General Pervez Musharraf, who ironically had created the NRO and squabbled with the Supreme Court over its implementation. 
 
In the past one week, Pakistan's government has lurched from a standoff with the Army to one with the political opposition. Now, as it braces for a possibly harsh ruling from the Supreme Court, observers say it may choose to face the people instead, i.e. calling for early elections.
