New Delhi: Senior Congress leaders PC Chacko and Sandeep Dikshit held the confused leadership responsible for the party's dismal performance in the Delhi Assembly election as projected by the exit polls.
According to the exit polls for Delhi Assembly election have predicted that the fight is between the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party with Congress nowhere in the contest. Some exit polls have even projected that the Congress won't be able to open its account in the election.
Senior party leaders PC Chacko and Sandeep Dikshit said that the party lost the battle due to a confused leadership.
Chacko said, "Congress lost the perception battle as media gave too much attention to BJP and AAP. We couldn't match their campaign because we had no organisation and finances. Both BJP and AAP have spent huge amounts. The reason for Congress's position is lack of organizational structure for the past many months."
Shielding party Vice President Rahul Gandhi from any blame for party's worse performance, Chacko said, "Rahul Gandhi could have only started campaigning earlier in Delhi if there was organisation on the ground. How could he have started earlier if there was no ground level framework. We are still expecting 16 seats. We are strong in 25 seats."
Backing Chacko was senior party leader Sandeep Dikshit who also held confused leadership behind Congress's performance. Dikshit said, "Delhi unit focused on petty politics instead of crucial issues. Senior leadership should have interacted more with the voters. The leadership was unable to target other parties effectively."
