New Delhi: Sukhdev Singh Namdhari a close aide of liquor baron Ponty Chadha's for over two decades, was arrested on Friday for allegedly helping Ponty to take control of this disputed family property. Before he was held, Namdhari spoke to the media at his farmhouse in Uttarakhand. He said, "I wasn't absconding and I'm not involved in grabbing the Mehrauli farmhouse."
Namdhari who before the fatal shootout was the head of the Uttarakhand Minority Commission is a vital link in the investigations. He was with Ponty on the day the liquor and real estate baron died in a shootout also involving his brother Hardeep.
As of now Namdhari has only been arrested for trespassing into the Mehrauli farmhouse. Police officials said that they haven't given him a clean chit as far as the murders are concerned. They would be questioning him about the exact sequence of events that led to the firing and the death of the two brothers.
The police would like to know from him why did he aid in Ponty's attempt to evict his brother Hardeep from this property? Did he have any interest in this piece of land and could he have instigated the brothers in any way? The police will also look for discrepancies in his statements and see if his version of the events is any different from that of others present on the spot.
