New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has refused to restrain a Durga Puja committee in Kolkata from using statues and images of Harry Potter characters during the festival.
HC lets off pandal for using Potter images, with warning
Lawyers representing J K Rowling, the author of the Potter books, and Warner Brothers had said that a model of Harry's school and life-size models of Harry Potter and his friends, were made without permission and violated copyright laws.
They were asking for Rs 20 lakh as damages. The court said that the committee could use the statues until October 26, and any further use would be subject to prior permission from J K Rowling.
The committee was directed to file an undertaking that they would not use any character from the Potter books without permission in future.
