New Delhi: Popular TV anchor and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporter Raghu Ram was on Friday allegedly attacked by two unidentified men inside the Benaras Hindu University campus (BHU). AAP's party leader and actor Gul Panag was chased away. She, however, tweeted to say she was safe.
"Oh well. I just got attacked by 2 guys with lathis inside BHU! They were outsiders. The BHU boys chased them away. #BJPKeGunde (sic)," Raghu Ram, the 'Roadies' show host, tweeted.
"There were 3 guys. The BHU students were outraged coz they were outsiders. But I love BHU students for not hitting back. #BJPKeGunde," he wrote on the microblogging site. "We weren't campaigning. Ab kya banaras ke ye haal hain ki atithiyon ke sirf upastithi se aapatti hai? I refuse to believe it," he said.
His comments were retweeted by Panag. Both were in Varanasi to join the Arvind Kejriwal roadshow.
The AAP convenor urged the people of Varanasi to end elitist politics. "(Narendra) Modi flew into Varanasi for just a couple of hours to campaign and left. What service will he do for the people if he comes into power? That is the sentiment of the people of Varanasi presently. They want to vote for a grounded candidate and bring an end to elitist politics," Kejriwal told CNN-IBN.
