Jammu: Milli Mahajan, a university student, describes herself as an SMS addict. Messaging for her was her one way to keep in touch constantly with friends - both near and far. But ever since SMS services were banned in Jammu and Kashmir two months ago, Milli and many like her have been finding it hard to cope. 
 
"It was a part of our past time. There's a kind of emotion attached to it and it has affected in a certain way." 
 
Another SMS addict, Bisham Padda adds, "It's a brief and the most efficient means of communication. It's even damaging our relationships." 
 
The ban was imposed after a Supreme Court order in August during the days of Amarnath land unrest. The state government had filed an application claiming SMS campaigns were spreading communal disharmony. Despite the land row being resolved, the ban on SMSes was never lifted. 
 
The Bar Association though is confident it will happen soon. 
 
President Bar Association, BS Slathai says, "We are fighting this case in the court. Now, we are justified in saying that there is no agitation going on." 
 
Even as life seems to have returned to normal in Jammu and the Valley, it seems there are some effects of the Amarnath unrest that will be harder to get rid off.
