Male: Riot police in Maldives clashed with former president Mohammed Nasheed supporters outside Parliament on Sunday. This came even as 20 MPs from his party spent the night holed up inside the Parliament building, fearing arrest and torture.
Demonstrations outside Parliament started late on Sunday evening. People gathered when the MPs of the Maldivian Democratic Party, led by Mohammad Nasheed gathered outside Parliament.
Reports say that the protests will continue because protestors have got a hint that some resort owners had given money to police as well as the army to enact a coup. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is convinced that that was what happened.
Reports also say the Commonwealth is now sending a ministerial delegation, not just to negotiate, but to investigate what exactly happened just before and after the coup.
