Jaipur: They've doted on the desert, sung of love and longing in the sands, of battles and kings and angels with wings. But the Sufi singers of the Thar have now composed a brand new and well a monumental repertoire on the monument of love – the Taj Mahal. The Manganiyar singers are traveling across the desert in a unique campaign to get as many votes for the Taj as possible. “We want that the Taj should be voted to be a part of seven wonders and this is the message we're hoping to give through our folk music,” says folk singer, Gafoor Khan Manganiyar. The singers are going from place to place with a musical request to vote for the Taj so that it can be included in the seven wonders. And the glories of the Taj have a global appeal. “The Taj Mahal was built by an emperor whose beloved died and he wanted to express his love for her through a beautiful monument,” says a flautist from France, Atiano.
