The Gorakhpur tragedy has lived its news cycle worth of five days of outrage. The mock battles have been fought and won. The administrative failures of what led to children being denied oxygen will be probed, reports submitted and maybe a few more resignations will come. But this predictable cycle will continue, next year, 2019-2020. The sufferings of today will become invisible then and we will search for what are called fresh case studies, a fresh set of parents whose children would have died, fresh grief. The reasons will be only marginally different. Tonight on The Crux we dig into our archives from 2013 and combine fresh ground reportage to show how nothing changes, even the political farce remains so achingly similar.
