New Delhi: Union Public Service Commission's decision to scrap regional language test in its exams has led to a controversy and the BJP and the Shiv Sena are calling the decision anti-people.

The UPSC had proposed aptitude and English papers instead of regional language paper in the exams. Both the BJP and the Shiv Sena also plan to stage protests over the issue.

The BJP has said that regional languages cannot be ignored and they oppose the move. BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, "The regional languages are important, cannot be ignored." Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, "Why do we have different states with their own languages? Regional languages must be respected. Students should be given a choice. English monopoly is not right."
