Viewpoint: What Will Dominate The Battle Of 2019?

With just over a week to go before the first vote is cast, the ruling BJP has taken up national security as it's main electoral plank rather unabashedly. The BJP's 'Main bhi chowkidar' campaign clearly reflects the party's approach in the upcoming elections. The Prime Minister launched the campaign online himself, changing his twitter and prefixing Chowkidar to his name. The word 'chowkidar' was not just an occupation anymore. It resonated with the masses talking about national security. Launching a stinging attack at the opposition, the Prime Minister in his first rally coined the phrases 'Damdaar Chowkidar vs daagdaar' and brigade that asked for 'saboot over sapoot'. There is also a marked shift in the BJP's nationalism pitch from the days of Atal Bihari Vajpayee - the campaign now is aimed at targetting Pakistan for it's Indian misadventures.
