It's a law that was framed in 1860 during the reign of Queen Victoria, a law that continues to remain in India's law books even though the British removed it from theirs. The Narendra Modi government on Wednesday said it was leaving it to the wisdom of the Supreme Court to decide if the law that criminalizes consensual gay sex was constitutionally valid. The stand has raised hopes among LGBT activists that Section 377 will finally be repealed.
