In 2015, over 12,600 farmers, reeling under debt and bad crop, ended their lives. Left behind are the families living in gloom and agony. Unable to afford a healthy upbringing, these families send their children to stay at an ashram in Nasik. This week, over 40 children and widows of farmers from drought-hit Maharashtra gathered at Jantar Mantar to appeal for a suicide-free India.
