New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that US plans to deploy a Missile Shield in Eastern Europe could raise the risk of mutual destruction.
Putin said that if the US goes ahead, Russia would take appropriate measures to counter the threat.
The US insisted that the interceptor missiles and radar systems Washington wants to deploy in Poland and the Czech Republic are aimed at neutralising potential threats from Iran and North Korea.
Putin however repeated his rejection of US insistence saying no such threats exist or are likely to anytime soon.
Putin made the remarks after meeting with Czech President Vaclav Klaus.
Russia has been critical of US plans, saying that the technology could be used to track Russian military activities.
Despite US Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ visit to Moscow to ease Russia's concerns, Russian officials have continued to lash out over the issue.
