Hundreds of Indian migrant workers, mostly Sikhs from Punjab are enslaved in Italy under horrific conditions. Balbir Singh, an Indian labourer, worked and lived in slave-like conditions in Italy’s Latina province. Singh’s story is a reflection of the brutal exploitation faced by hundreds of other Indians.
According to locals, despite working for 28 days, farm workers are marked only 4 days on their payslip. This allows the employer to pay 200-300 Euros towards the end of the month. These labourers are reportedly prescribed drugs to cope with long hours, poor conditions and very low pay.
