Massive fire broke out at the Al-Hussein hospital in the southern city of Nasiriya, Iraq on July 12. The fire has reportedly killed at least 52 people in the ward, including two health workers. According to officials, all those who died had suffered severe burn injuries during the blaze.
Officials say the death toll could rise as some patients are still missing. After much effort, the fire has been controlled by Iraq’s local civil defence forces. Thick smoke emanating from the ward is made it difficult to search for the victims.
