New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed pleas of 5 accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case who had sought a modification of the apex court's order which barred them from filing appeal in the high courts against the trial court order. The accused including DB Group promoter Shahid Balwa, Vinod Goenka, Rajiv Agarwal, Asif Balwa and Ravinder Kumar Chandolia had filed a petition pleading that the high courts be allowed to monitor the case.
But the Supreme Court bench of justices GS Singhvi and KS Radhakrishnan said that no high court will be allowed to monitor the case.
The Supreme Court said that it is in public interest that this matter is completed expeditiously both for the accused and the prosecution. It said that if the accused are innocent, they can get on with their life as quickly as possible as dragging cases will result in a loss of memory of the witnesses.
