Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will likely file its first chargesheet in the Adarsh Housing society scam on Tuesday, more than 17 months after registering its first FIR. The FIR had named 14 accused, including Maharashtra's former chief minister Ashok Chavan as well senior ex-Army officials and top bureaucrats.
Chavan had been forced to resign after the scam came to light in October 2010.
The CBI believes that the accused misused their official positions to manipulate records and corner flats that were meant for the Kargil War heroes and their widows.
Chavan and his predecessors Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushil Kumar Shinde, meanwhile, blamed each other in their depositions before the judicial panel constituted to probe the scam.
