The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Unlawful Activities Amendment Bill after Opposition parties created a ruckus in the House. In his speech, Home Minister Amit Shah defended the Bill, saying it was meant to “root out terrorism from India and it will not be misused”. Explaining that there was a need for a provision to declare an individual a terrorist, Shah said, “In the name of ideology, some people promote urban Maoism. We don’t have any sympathy for the urban Maoists. We will act strongly against them.”
