Bhubaneswar: Coming down heavily on the rebels in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday suspended Lok Sabha MP Pyari Mohan Mahapatra, two ministers and two MLAs from the party.
The ministers who have been suspended from the party are Anjali Behera and Sanjeev Sahoo.
On Tuesday, more than 25 BJD MLAs and four ministers had met Patnaik's rival Mahapatra at his residence in Bhubaneswar even while the Chief Minister was in London.
According to BJD vice president Damodar Rout, some MLAs had met Pyari Mohan Mahapatra and were planning to form a breakaway government.
He had said, "Some MLAs have met Pyari Mohan Mahapatra and they told media that they had discussed development issues with him and claim that they have 25 to 28 MLAs with them."
"They are planning to form a breakaway government with the help of some Congress MLAs, and are meeting the Governor on Wednesday," Rout had said.
He had, however, denied any threat to the state government saying, "There is no threat to our government as there is no alternative."
The Orissa Congress had also intimated the party high command about the new political development in the state.
