New Delhi: Live updates: 5.25 pm: BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman says currently Narendra Modi is a member of the party's Parliamentary Board. "If party wants to give Modi any other role, it will be announced to the media," says Sitharaman during a press conference in Goa. 
 
5.20 pm: Sitharaman says BJP has condemned the protests outside party patriarch LK Advani's house earlier on Saturday, but adds that no BJP cadre was involved in the demonstration. Advani is staying away from BJP's National Executive meet in Goa citing health reasons. 
 
5.15 pm: BJP holds a press conference in Goa. Party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman attacks the UPA government on several issues such as Naxalism, terrorism and country's development. "UPA is handling Maoist issue in a confused and laid-back manner," she says. She adds that UPA has communalised terrorism in the country, but this "appeasement politics is never going to benefit the country". 
 
4.31 pm: Congress' Renuka Chowdhary says protests outside BJP senior leader LK Advani's house are condemnable. "If BJP is treating its patriarch LK Advani in such a manner, then you can think of what they will do when they come to power. Advani should be treated more respectfully," she says. 
 
4.12 pm: BJP chief Rajnath Singh has reportedly offered a peace formula to the LK Advani camp, suggesting that Narendra Modi be made the poll panel convenor. However, sources say there is no clarity if Modi will accept this as he wants to be the chairman of the poll panel. 
 
2.59 pm: BJP chief Rajnath Singh clarifies that LK Advani didn't skip the National Executive Meet deliberately and was unwell. 
 
2.44 pm: BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar calls the protests outside LK Advani's residence unfortunate, says the BJP is a disclipined party and the behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. 
 
2.00 pm: BJP workers, mainly Narendra Modi supporters, begin protest outside LK Advani's residence in Delhi. Advani has declined to attend the BJP National Executive meet in Goa on Sunday as well citing health reasons. 
 
1.30 pm: Prakash Javadekar, during the press conference in Goa, says Narendra Modi will address the National Executive on Sunday and talk about elections. He adds that LK Advani will attend the next National Executive meet. 
 
1.12 pm: BJP spokesperson, while reading out from Rajnath's address, says LK Advani will not attend the BJP National Executive meet on Sunday either, saying that he had been advised rest by the doctors. 
 
1.06 pm: In a press conference, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar says that there is a crisis of credibility in the country due to the Congress. "Why was the coal report changed by the PMO secretary and the coal secretary? How is the PM continuing in office after the SC's remarks on the coal report," Javadekar said, while reading out from the BJP's presidential address. He lavishes praise on the BJP which he says, wants a change in the system of governance and has has emerged as a symbol of good governance. 
 
12.22 pm: Yashwant Sinha denies reports that he is ill, says he is in perfect health and "illness is not my reason for skipping the Goa meet". 
 
12.16 pm: The LK Advani camp within the BJP has told party president Rajnath Singh to take a decision on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi only in his presence. 
 
11.39 am: BJP chief Rajnath Singh speaks to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on the 2014 campaign committee. Nitish Kumar is a fierce opponent of Narendra Modi, who is likely to be made the panel chief. JDU sources, however, say that Nitish has conveyed that any announcement on campaign committee chief is organisational decision of the BJP. "Our point is limited to the PM candidate," they add. 
 
11.13 am: Bharatiya Janata Party's two-day National Executive meet begins in Goa amidst reports of rift over Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. 
 
10.31 am: BJP leader Shaina NC, when asked about the leadership issue, says the National Executive meet is being held "only to discuss core issues that is corruption, economy, price rise, loot after loot, Naxal issue. We are not getting into a petty trivia". 
 
10.24 am: Goa CM Manohar Parrikar says Narendra Modi should be projected as the BJP's face in Lok Sabha polls. 
 
10.20 am: BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain says, "Politics shouldn't be attached" with Advani's absence, adding that he will attend the National Executive meet on Sunday. 
 
10.11 am: Several leaders, including Jaswant Singh, former Uttarakhand CMs BC Khanduri and BS Koshiyari, skip the meet after LK Advani cites health reasons to remain absent on the second day of the Goa conclave. While Jaswant Singh and BC Khanduri call in sick, BS Koshiyari says he is touring the North East. 
 
Perhaps for the first time in the Bharatiya Janata Party's history, senior leader LK Advani will not be attending the National Executive meet in Goa on Saturday, sources said. The sources added that Advani cited health reasons to skip the meet. 
 
Advani is reportedly opposed to the proposed elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the party's campaign committee head during the meet. The BJP patriarch had also skipped the extended Parliamentary Board meet on Friday citing health reasons. The Parliamentary Board was expected to come out with some kind of decision on Modi. However, sources later said that the party will take a decision on Modi on Sunday. 
 
Advani's presence on the second day of the conclave on Sunday is also uncertain, with sources saying a decision will be made by the party patriarch on the day itself. 
 
The role of Modi in the next general elections to be held in 2014 has divided BJP - with some pushing for him and others close to Advani opposing him. 
 
Apparently to show opposition, leaders like Uma Bharti, Jaswant Singh and Yogi Adityananth are not attending the National Executive meeting. 
 
The Congress, meanwhile, is leaving no stone unturned in poking fun at the party that seems to be undergoing a major leadership crisis. 
 
In an interview to CNN-IBN, Union Minister Salman Khurshid said that the face-off between LK Advani and Narendra Modi resembled a soap opera and that he was enjoying it. "I am quite enjoying how they are giving it to each other. It's quite a soap opera and I am quite enjoying it," he told CNN-IBN's Pallavi Ghosh.
