New Delhi: The Congress is set to come up with the second list of Lok Sabha candidates on Thursday after the party's Central Election Committee met in the national capital earlier in the day.
According to sources, the names of Union Minister Veerappa Moily and Former Railway Minister Pawan Bansal have been cleared and their candidature is likely to be announced later in the evening.
On Bansal, the Congress has maintained that any individual who is not an accused nor has been chargesheeted cannot be called tainted on mere perception. On Chavan and Kalmadi, the Congress said that they haven't been nominated as yet nor has a ticket been denied.
There is no mention of Commonwealth Games scam accused Suresh Kalmadi and his wife in the list. The move can be seen as the party's attempt to change its image and to portray Rahul as an anti-corruption crusader.
Reports also say that Finance Minister P Chidambaram has expressed his preference for his son Karthi Chidambaram to contest from Sivaganga. It is also being said that he wants the Rajya Sabha route for himself.
Sachin Pilot too is not keen to contest and his seat Ajmer is likely to go to Azharuddin.
Sources also say half of the Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu have been cleared.
