Visakhapatnam: The CPI(M) is all set to begin a new chapter as the Prakash Karat era comes to an end. Senior politburo member Sitaram Yechury and party leader SR Pillai are the frontrunners to suceed Karat.
The last CPI(M) meeting of the outgoing politburo was held late night on Saturday. The meeting started somewhere before 9 pm and lasted till 12 am in the morning.
Leaders coming out of the meeting were tightlipped about the agenda and decisions made. Those hailing from West Bengal though seemed a little unhappy. There is still no clarity on who will take over from Prakash Karat and whether there is any consensus on the next General Secretary.
"With, Karat's tenure coming to an end, the question of change is in the air," said Md Salim.
Leaders are to address a gathering and hold a rally at 3 pm on Sunday. The Karat era has finally come to an end after a good three terms.
