Speaking to DD after Budget 2023, FM Nirmala Sitharaman said, "Old  regime of taxation is complicated and the new regime will be helpful and benefit the people.  We have raised  Tax  slabs and surcharges also have been reduced in new regime. The new  system will be default system but any one can opt for old  system."

While the Indian markets instantly cheered Budget 2023, Sensex settled 158 points up at 59,708.08 while Nifty ended 45 points down at 17,616.

"Salaried class and pensioners including Family pensioners for whom I propose to extend the Benefit of Standard deduction to the new tax regime . Each salaried person with an income of Rs 15.5 lakhs or more to benefit by Rs 52,500," says FM Nirmala Sitharaman.

The new tax rates are 0 to Rs 3 lakhs – nil, Rs 3 to 6 lakhs – 5%, Rs 6 to 9 Lakhs – 10%, Rs 9 to 12 Lakhs – 15%, Rs 12 to 15 Lakhs – 20% and above 15 Lakhs – 30%

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday presented the Economic Survey 2022-23, the report card of India’s economy, in Parliament. According to the Economic Survey 2022-23, India’s real GDP growth for the next financial year FY24 is pegged at 6-6.8 per cent.

FM Sithraman also presented Economic Survey 2022-23 on January 31. The Survey has pegged India's FY24 GDP at 6-6.8% ahead of Budget.
Ahead of the national elections in 2024, the last full budget of the government is likely to boost welfare spending with a focus on rural and infra capex, according to a report by Swiss brokerage UBS.
